Reflection

During this course, I began developing new computer science courses for our high school to offer in the upcoming school year. The ultimate goal is to expand our computer science program and provide students with a wider variety of engaging and meaningful course options. I dedicated 10 hours to collaboration, development, and research, working to identify and propose courses to our building administration.

The process began with discussions with our current computer science teacher. Together, we identified a need to broaden the program and provide students with opportunities to explore diverse aspects of computer science during their high school experience.

Next, we moved into the planning phase for the new classes. We outlined our objectives for each course, focusing on the skills and competencies students should gain. Using theĀ  Ohio standards as a framework, I developed course descriptions that aligned with the standards’ emphasis on equity, pedagogy, and content knowledge. I also completed the necessary paperwork to propose these courses for the 2025-2026 school year.

Additionally, I dedicated several hours to exploring potential project ideas, with a particular focus on a Digital Arts and Media course. Some of the proposed activities include:

  • Logo Design
  • Posters and Flyers
  • Social Media Campaigns
  • Photo Manipulation
  • Stop Motion Animation
  • Intro Videos for Websites or YouTube Channels
  • Web Animation

These activities are designed to align with the Ohio standards by encouraging creativity, computational thinking, and digital fluency. I believe these additions will enhance our program and inspire students to explore computer science in new and exciting ways.
